Sink Your Teeth into Santa Clarita: A Santa Clarita Diet Film Location Guide

If you’re a fan of Netflix’s twisted zombie comedy Santa Clarita Diet, starring Drew Barrymore, there’s no better way to celebrate your obsession than by stepping right into the real-world backdrop of the show—Santa Clarita, California. While Sheila and Joel Hammond were busy dealing with undead cravings and cover-ups, they were doing it all right here in our sunny SoCal town. If you’re planning a visit, here are some must-see film locations where the mayhem happened.

1. Canyon High School: 19300 Nadal St.

Fans will recognize Canyon High as the school where Abby Hammond navigated high school life while her mom was busy being undead. It served as a frequent backdrop for schoolyard scenes, and it’s a great spot for snapping a nostalgic pic.

2. Saugus Drugs: 27641 Bouquet Canyon Road

Saugus Drugs is featured in Season 1, Episode 1, titled “So Then a Bat or a Monkey.” In this episode, Joel attempts to procure supplies to manage Sheila’s unexpected undead condition. Additionally, this old-school local pharmacy is a recurring location throughout the series.

3.  Extra Storage Valencia: 26200 Hollywood Court

When you’ve got bodies to hide, a storage unit seems like a natural choice. Extra Storage was used in scenes where Joel and Sheila tried to keep their undead lifestyle under wraps. This facility served as a recurring location throughout the series, beginning in Season 1, Episode 3, “We Can Kill People.” In this episode, Joel and Sheila Hammond rent a storage unit to conceal the body of a man Sheila kills during a road rage incident. The storage unit continues to play a significant role in subsequent episodes, including Season 1, Episode 5, “Man Eat Man” and Season 2, Episode 5, “Going Pre-med.”

4.  Former Brave New World Comics: 22722 Lyons Avenue

Former comic book store Brave New World Comics appears in Season 1, Episode 2, “We Can’t Kill People!” In this episode, the comic book store serves as the hangout space of Eric Bemis, the Hammonds’ teenage neighbor. The store provides a setting where Eric discusses his theories about the undead and assists Abby Hammond with her family’s unusual predicament.

5.  Backwoods Inn: 17846 Sierra Highway

Backwoods Inn serves as the filming location for Japopo’s, a rustic steakhouse appearing in Season 2, Episodes 5 “Going Pre-med” and 7, “A Change of Heart.” It is the location where Sheila eats the clams that cause her character to become undead, starting the Hammonds down their chaotic journey of dealing with Sheila’s new condition.

6.  Santa Clarita Skatepark: 20840 Centre Pointe Parkway

The Santa Clarita Skatepark serves as a backdrop for scenes in Season 3, Episode 7, “A Specific Form of Recklessness” where Sheila and Joel visit Ron Ruffin to discuss how he is holding up living his new undead life.

Whether you’re a die-hard fan of Santa Clarita Diet or just love exploring film locations, these spots bring the show’s quirky charm to life. So, grab your camera and take a bite out of this beautiful city!
