Day 1: Cinematic History
Start your morning with breakfast at The Original Saugus Café, the oldest restaurant in Los Angeles County first founded in 1886 as part of a former rail stop connecting San Francisco and Los Angeles via the Newhall Pass.

William S. Hart Museum
After breakfast, take a tour of William S. Hart’s Museum, former home of the famed silent film actor and director who produced a series of hit Western movies in the early 1900’s. As a member of the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, the museum exhibits an impressive collection of Western artwork as well as mementos from early Hollywood, personal furnishings and artifacts representing Native American cultures.
As your day winds down, enjoy dinner at The Old Town Junction or Newhall Refinery, both serving American cuisine in a comfortable, rustic setting.
End your evening with a leisurely stroll through Old Town Newhall. As a hub for Western actors in the early 1900s, use the Newhall Walking Tour app to explore the Western Walk of Stars as well as the area’s rich film history. Witness stars such as Gene Autry, Roy Rogers, John Wayne and William S. Hart, amongst many others.

Day 2: Nature’s Serenity

Vasquez Rocks
Start your day with a scenic drive through the Angeles National Forest. Enjoy breathtaking views as you carve your way through mountains, valleys and canyons home to abundant wildlife. On your drive, make a stop at Vasquez Rocks Natural Area Park, a unique geological formation that has been featured in numerous movies and TV shows, including The Flintstones, Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey, Power Rangers Star Trek, Westworld, and more! Take a leisurely hike on one of the trails, climb the massive rocks or simply enjoy a picnic.
For wildlife lovers, visit Placerita Canyon, a beautiful park with hiking trails, picnic areas, and a nature center featuring local rescued wildlife. Plus, the park is home to the historic Oak of the Golden Dream, where gold was first discovered in California.
