In Santa Clarita, spring reveals the abundance of life in every direction. It’s in the flowers that grow across the fields of Golden Valley Open Space, loved by hikers of all levels. It’s at every SENSES Block Party happening on Main Street, making everyone’s month all the more exciting. And it is most definitely at Six Flags Magic Mountain during its annual Scream Break, terrifying those who dare to enter the land full of monsters. These are just a glimpse of what awaits you in the Gateway to L.A. Craft your ideal spring break getaway using this fun-filled itinerary as your tour guide!
Day 1 –
As the saying goes, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Order any of the signature omelets, crepes or iconic Horchata French toast at the independently owned Neighbarista. Pair your breakfast with a refreshing glass of juice or a latte.
Make your way to Gilchrist Farm for their annual Spring Fling & Egg Hunt. Whether you’re traveling with family or friends, this adventurous event is a must during your visit to Santa Clarita. On select days from March 16 – 30, guests can enjoy baby farm animals, crafts zones, photos with the Easter bunny and so much more. Children can also participate in an egg hunt based on their age group.
Afterwards, grab a quick pick-me-up at Makenna Koffee. This beach-themed coffee shop only recently opened its doors yet have already captured our hearts with drinks such as Almond Blossom and Cabo San Lucas.
Once sunset hits, get ready to celebrate the night! Six Flags Magic Mountain invites you to face your biggest fears at the frightful Scream Break. On select days from March 22 to April 13, stop by this monster mash for haunted mazes, scare zones and ride access to thrilling attractions. (Warning: This Thrill Capital of the World won’t hold back from delivering some of the most horrifying scares!) Guests 21 and older can also pick up ghoulishly delicious treats such as Sangria Blood Bags and other haunted cocktails.
And if you catch yourself vacationing during the week, be sure to stop by Main Street for a SENSES Block Party. Happening every third Thursday of the month until October, this popular event offers live music, an on-site bar and food trucks available for those late-night bites. Each month has a different theme, so dress for a Neon Night in March or Saddle Up in April.

Day 2 –
New day, new beginnings! Take in a breath of fresh air with an outdoor stroll. Santa Clarita’s hiking trails and open space are gorgeous year-round, but there’s nothing quite like its views in the springtime. Hike the five-mile loop over at Towsley Canyon for endurance or take it easy with the flat trail of Elsmere Canyon. No matter your decision, rest assured you will have a stunning trail on your hands!
For runners in search of a challenge, participate in a 10 kilometer, half marathon or 50k ultra distance at the Valencia Trail Race on March 23. This annual race brings locals and visitors together for an event full of spirit and picturesque sights.
Be sure to refuel the body after your morning workout with a hearty meal at Margaritas Mexican Grill. This family friendly eatery serves breakfast all day, lunch specials and holds a spectacular Sunday champagne brunch buffet. Who could say no to huevos con machaca with mimosas or chimichangas?
Continue celebrating the season with Agua Dulce Winery’s Annual Spring Craft Fair on March 16th and 17th from 12 – 5 p.m. Every year, this winery invites all to join in with the festivities. And every year, they knock it out of the park with wine, food, live music and local artists to shop from! This 90-acre vineyard is impossible to miss, with its majestic mountain vistas and beautifully crafted photo ops.
Wind down for the day with a drive to Main Street, where there awaits Maginn’s Irish Pub. An authentic Irish American pub in the heart of Old Town Newhall, this casual spot serves favorites such as Beef and Guinness Stew, Cottage Pie or their iconic Irish Soda Bread. They’re widely known for their large selection of Irish and domestic beers on tap, so be sure to grab a pint!
And finally, no dinner would be complete without a show. Take a short walk from the pub to close the curtains of your stay with The MAIN theater. With a booked season of shows, there are quite a few to select from. If you’re looking for a laugh, check out the comic parody Done to Death (March 15 – 17) or The Society’s Improv Night (April 6). If music’s more your thing, then check out Music & Movement (March 7) or Go Jazz Big Band (March 29).
